Apple Canceled a Shorter Apple Pencil for the iPhone Duo
Apple dropped plans for a smaller stylus meant for the iPhone Duo because of manufacturing and technical hurdles.
Apple abandoned development on a compact version of its stylus designed to accompany the iPhone Duo. Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman revealed that technical hurdles derailed the project shortly before manufacturing was set to begin.
Plans Scrapped Prior to Production
According to MacRumors, the shortened stylus did not advance past the development phase. Engineers encountered persistent technical problems that ultimately forced company leadership to cancel the release.
The accessory was intended to pair directly with the iPhone Duo handset. However, the hardware complications proved too significant to resolve before the scheduled mass production timeline.
Support for Existing Hardware
Rather than launching a brand-new device, Apple plans to update the current lineup. The company stated that the iPhone Duo will receive compatibility for the current USB-C Apple Pencil later in the year.
This means users interested in stylus functionality will need to rely on the existing USB-C model rather than a compact variant built specifically for the phone.
Future software updates will enable this connectivity. Owners of the handset will be able to utilize the current peripheral without purchasing newly designed hardware.
