Blood of Dawnwalker Update Adds Combat-Free Story Mode

Developer Rebel Wolves will roll out a new difficulty setting for The Blood of Dawnwalker in early October to accommodate users who prefer to avoid fighting entirely. Game director Konrad Tomaszkiewicz discussed the upcoming patch in a recent interview with IGN competitor Eurogamer, detailing several adjustments slated for the vampire role-playing game.

Currently, the title features four distinct difficulty tiers: Story, Fair, Challenging, and Duelist. The patch arriving next month will introduce a fifth option by adding a new, lower setting. This fresh addition will assume the name Story Mode.

Meanwhile, the difficulty level currently known as Story Mode will shift upward and receive a new title, such as Demanding. Tomaszkiewicz explained that the team received numerous requests for a more forgiving option from individuals who wish to follow the narrative without engaging with the built-in mechanics of combat.

Specific details regarding how the studio will implement this combat-free experience remain unspecified. Beyond the difficulty restructuring, the developer is working on performance enhancements, particularly for personal computer players. The studio also plans to introduce a fluid escape mechanism for battles that prove too difficult, alongside adjustments to targeting and camera functions.

Upcoming Quality-of-Life Adjustments

The upcoming update will address combat mechanics, including how players interact with stun states. Tomaszkiewicz noted that the team is experimenting with a requirement to absorb three hits during a stun, though they plan to monitor community feedback to ensure the adjustment feels right.

While the full contents of the October patch are still under wraps, the studio has confirmed that a new game plus mode is planned for the future. The project launched on September 3 for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S, subsequently surpassing one million sales within its first forty-eight hours on the market.

What This Means for Players

For users who found the initial combat challenge too steep, the upcoming October patch offers a clear path to enjoy the narrative without the stress of fights. PC players can also look forward to performance tuning designed to smooth out technical issues.

With an early October release window, the wait for these changes is short. The developer continues to support the title following its strong commercial debut last month.
