Cairn DLC Deep Water Gets October Release Date After Delay

The delayed first expansion for the climbing game Cairn finally has a firm release date following an announcement at the PC Gaming Show Tokyo Direct. PC Gamer reports that the upcoming add-on, titled On the Trail: Deep Water, will arrive on October 29, 2026.

This release marks the debut of a planned series of free expansions for the survival title. Players can currently wishlist the new content ahead of its launch next month.

New Locations and Water Mechanics

The Deep Water expansion introduces three distinct climbing environments for players to master. These include the cliffs of Haken and Ruka, which feature challenging overhangs positioned directly above water surfaces.

Unlike previous hazards, the water serves a functional purpose by acting as a safety cushion. Climbers can now fall into the water without facing negative consequences, allowing for riskier free solo attempts.

In addition to the natural cliffs, the add-on includes the Lamu climbing gym. This controlled environment provides a safer space for players to test their skills and protect their virtual bones.

New Playable Character and Modes

Beyond environments, the update expands character options by letting players control Marco. This gives users a chance to experience a different climbing style compared to the original protagonist, Aava.

Both characters can be utilized in a newly added free roam mode. This feature allows users to reload their saves directly on the mountain, making it easier to practice difficult sections or explore alternative paths.

For those who have not yet purchased the base game, a discount is currently available. Steam is offering the title at 20 percent off until September 26, giving prospective buyers a window to pick it up before the expansion arrives.
