Call of Duty: Warzone Ends Support on PS4 and Xbox One

Activision has confirmed that Call of Duty: Warzone will permanently end its run on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. According to details shared by Polygon, the shutdown arrives right after the release of the first seasonal update for Modern Warfare 4.

The upcoming mainline title, Modern Warfare 4, is scheduled to launch on October 23. This release marks a clear shift away from older hardware for the franchise, as the new game skips previous-generation hardware entirely.

While older consoles are losing the title, current systems retain full access. Warzone will remain active and playable on Windows PC, PlayStation 5, and the Xbox Series X. The platform also has a release planned for the Nintendo Switch 2.

Changes for Last-Gen Players

For gamers still using older hardware, restrictions are already in place. New downloads for Warzone on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One are blocked. Users who already have the title installed can continue playing until the first season of Modern Warfare 4 drops.

Additional restrictions arrived in June when developers removed the in-game store for those platforms. Despite these limits, users on older systems retain access to free Battle Pass tiers, allowing them to unlock new gear during the remaining seasons of Black Ops 7.

Future Integration on Current Hardware

Current-generation systems will experience deep integration once the new content arrives. Season 1 of Modern Warfare 4 will merge its progression systems directly into Warzone.

This connection creates a shared environment between both titles. Call of Duty staff detailed the integration plan in a published update explaining the upcoming connected experience.

First launched as a free battle royale title in 2020, the original software version was retired in 2023 following the introduction of its successor. That successor eventually dropped its numeric suffix to become the standard version of Warzone running today.
