According to an IGN review ofLanterns Season 1, Episode 7, titled "The Jordan Boys Legacy," the penultimate chapter successfully restores narrative momentum by utilizing a clever workaround for Hal Jordan's absence.
Because the story finally ventures into the 2026 timeline previously teased in the pilot, it operates in a post-Hal Jordan reality. The series misses the friction between Kyle Chandler's Hal and Aaron Pierre's John Stewart, but the installment gets around this limitation via a backup technology known as the Halogram.
Flashbacks and the Halogram Dynamic
The chapter opens with a flashback to Hal's childhood, introducing Martin Jordan, played by Jake B. Miller. This sequence explores how Martin instilled a specific type of fearlessness in his son while also highlighting a generational legacy of suicidal depression. Miller's performance conveys both bravado and pain, complete with a mustache that hints at how much the young Hal would eventually look to his Green Lantern mentor as a father figure.
Back in 2026, the Halogram is unearthed and reactivated following a ten-year hiatus. This allows the show to recreate the banter between Hal and John, though with a younger and softer version of the character. This setup lets the digital backup admit things the living Hal never could.
Later, Sheriff Kerry, played by Kelly Macdonald, shares an emotional reunion with the Halogram. While her genuine grief is apparent, the reviewer notes that the possibility of her being the killer to protect her son remains open.
Subplots and the Journey Ahead
Not all elements of the episode land equally well, as the drama involving local Rushville residents remains less engaging. For instance, the subplot where John loses $315,000 and a Richard Mille watch in a blackmail dispute with Maggie, played by Hannah Christine Shetler, feels disconnected from the broader Green Lantern origin story. Similarly, Noah's Hat Day storyline feels slight, though suspicions linger that he could be a human-Manhunter hybrid linked to Hal's murder.
The chapter concludes by sending John to an alien world for the first time. Hal left behind a portal to the home planet of Antaan, played by Paul Ben-Victor, showcasing the destruction caused by Manhunters. Accompanied by Stephanie Economou's eerie score, the sequence features a fear gas sequence, conversations between Hal and John, and the return of Sinestro, played by Ulrich Thomsen, who is stranded on a dead world.
With only one episode left, the series faces the challenge of answering numerous questions and resolving John Stewart's arc in the upcoming season finale.
