Sony Vets Remake Famous PS4 Game-Sharing Video

Former PlayStation leaders Shuhei Yoshida and Adam Boyes have posed for a new photo that recreates their famous instructional clip about sharing games on the PlayStation 4.

As reported by Eurogamer, the pair reunited at the Tokyo Game Show 2026 event. Yoshida posted the image online alongside a short message about meeting a good friend.

Back in 2013, Microsoft faced significant backlash over restrictive policies for sharing titles on the upcoming Xbox One. Sony capitalized on this public frustration by publishing a brief tutorial video ahead of the PS4 generation.

In that original clip, Yoshida simply handed a physical Blu-ray disc of Killzone: Shadow Fall to Boyes. The video required no further steps and eventually gathered 21 million views over the course of 13 years, cementing its status as a piece of internet gaming history.

A Disc-Free Recreation

For the modern recreation, neither executive held any physical media, reflecting the changing landscape of the industry. The image quickly drew attention from social media users who viewed the updated pose as a humorous nod to current hardware trends.

Earlier in the summer, PlayStation confirmed plans to stop manufacturing discs for new titles beginning in 2028. The corporation started repurposing its sole disc-making factory shortly after the announcement.

Industry Fallout

The pivot toward an all-digital model generated substantial criticism from players who prefer collecting physical media. Despite consumer pushback and organized protests, leadership has maintained that the company will not reverse its decision.

Market researchers speaking to Eurogamer warned that the strategy shift will deal a severe blow to traditional brick-and-mortar game retailers.
