Xbox Introduces Mythic Achievements for Players Who Finish Entire Games

Microsoft has revealed Mythic Achievements, a new completionist reward system designed to recognize players who fully finish a title.

The system mirrors the platinum trophy mechanic long offered on rival PlayStation hardware. Players unlock a Mythic tier once they finish every standard challenge bundled with a release at launch. Crucially, extra objectives added through downloadable content or subsequent patches will not revoke this status once secured.

As reported by Engadget, the program applies retroactively across historical play records. Any software already cleared in the past will automatically qualify, with backward compatibility covering releases as far back as the Xbox 360 era. Senior product manager Alex Charters noted in an announcement post that gamers may see several titles already elevated when inspecting their history.

Profile Changes and Social Tracking

Players can inspect these accolades directly within an overhauled Gaming tab on user profiles. Mythic unlock entries stand out with distinctive heroic frames, letting people show off full completions to others on their friends list. Gamers can inspect their peers' profiles to see finished games, such asGears of War 2.

Xbox has also integrated a progress tracker above the list of requirements for individual titles, making it easier to track how close a game is to total completion.

Current Rollout and Other Insider Tests

The arrival follows hints delivered earlier in the year by Xbox chief Asha Sharma. Although Microsoft pioneered modern console accomplishments, its ecosystem previously lacked a dedicated capstone tier signifying absolute completion.

For now, access remains restricted to participants enrolled in the Xbox Insider preview ring, which is open to join at no charge. The testing track allows early participants to evaluate platform updates prior to widespread consumer deployment.

The capstone rollout joins several ongoing Insider evaluations. The company is currently experimenting with a conversion tool that shifts disc-based software into digital licenses, alongside trials for an ad-supported cloud streaming tier.
